There are a lot of articles out here on the internet about network marketing, mlm or direct sales. Most of them are designed to get you to sign up for their particular business. Because of that they aren’t always 100% accurate. This article is being written so that anyone who is interested in joining this controversial industry will be able to know the truth about it before they waste any time, money or effort.

Network marketing is a very different type of business than most people are use to. Rather than completely focusing on the product and sales network marketers are compensated for building a team as well. So you’re doing two things at once. You’re bringing people into your business, training them and helping them succeed. While you’re also marketing and selling your product or service. If you’re not consistently doing both of these things you’re not going to have success in network marketing.

Another thing that makes network marketing so different is that generally you have to spend money to get started in the business. The reason for this is because you’re not just getting another job you’re starting your own business. Businesses cost money to start, jobs don’t. So if you’re thinking about getting started in network marketing you need to know that you’ll actually be starting your own business. This is a big plus for many people but can be a negative for some depending on exactly what you want.

Finally we get to the number one reason why network marketing is so controversial. The scams. Yes, it is true that there are bad businesses out there who will steal your money and offer you nothing in return. They’re sort of here today gone tomorrow.

However it’s important to realize that that is a rarity in an industry that is 99% of the time completely legitimate. It’s a shame that a few bad apples can ruin the reputation of an entire industry but it’s true.

For the most part network marketing is a great way to make money from home. It’s simple, it’s inexpensive and it can work for just about anyone. Just make sure that you do some research on your company ahead of time before joining. This will ensure that you won’t be getting into anything that might be a scam.

If a company has been around for at least a year, they have a physical product they market or if they have a corporate office (I.e. they don’t operate out of a mini van) you’re probably dealing with a legal legitimate company.

Why Your Uncle Fred Hates MLM And Why You Shouldn’t Care!

Let’s face it, a lot of people just hate MLM! Call it what you want, a home based business, MLM, direct sales or network marketing…. There are some people who just hate it all. I’m sure if you think about it you can even think of some family members that hate MLM right? Like your dad or your uncle Fred or your cousin Larry. Well let me tell you why uncle Fred hates MLM and why you really shouldn’t care at all!

He Gave Up Too Quickly - How can anyone really expect to make a ton of money from home in a week, a month or even 6 months!? The truth is that network marketing is a BUSINESS and just like any other type of business it’s going to take time to grow. So many people give MLM a “try” for a month or two and then give up. We’re pretty sure Microsoft or IBM weren’t built in just a month!

He Was Involved In A Bad Company - As great as the network marketing industry is there are some bad companies out there. Uncle Fred may have just been involved in a bad business. I understand being upset about it but you to understand that one bad apple in the bunch doesn’t represent all of MLM in general.

He Had A Bad Upline - One of the worst things someone can do in MLM is bring you into the business and then not be there to help you at all. If uncle Fred had a bad upline the chances of him succeeding are of course lowered. However, just like the last point stated just because one bad person gave him a bad taste in his mouth doesn’t mean that all of network marketing is like that. There are lots of people who will be more than happy to mentor you to success.

He Wasn’t Really Working The System - Sadly the number one reason people fail in MLM is because rather than the business failing them they fail the business! If you’re not doing what your upline tells you to do, if you’re not talking to enough people or if you’re just not trying that hard how can you ever expect to become successful?

So don’t worry about what other people say about network marketing. Just because they had a bad experience doesn’t mean you will. Network marketing is a great way to make money from home. Don’t let bitter old uncle Fred take that away from you!

Despite what many network marketers would love for you to believe MLM really isn’t for everyone. I believe that anyone who really has the passion and desire can make money in a home based business regardless of their background, education level or their personality. However, not everyone has what it takes to build their own business from home. This article is dedicated to anyone who isn’t sure if network marketing is right for them. If you’re sitting on the fence hopefully this article will help you decide.

One of the biggest things that makes someone not right for MLM is if they can’t get out of an employee mindset. Network marketing isn’t like having a job it’s starting a business. You will be the CEO of your very own business. If you’re not ready to be your own boss and really take pride and ownership in your new business then network marketing is not right for you.

You will not have a boss looking over your shoulder, you won’t have deadlines (except the ones you make for yourself) and you won’t have a schedule that’s set in stone. For many people that can be very liberating however, for some it can be a problem. So if that doesn’t sound like something you’d like network marketing might not be right for you.

Also, if you’re the type of person who has trouble motivating themselves you might not be right for network marketing. A business owner has to have vision and passion and most importantly motivation. You don’t have a boss to MAKE you work so if you aren’t a self starter then MLM might not be best for you.

Finally, you have to be the type of person who doesn’t mind being outside the box. A network marketing company isn’t like any other job. People are going to look at you like you’re crazy sometimes but that’s just something you’ll have to learn to get over. There is nothing traditional or average about network marketing so if you’re not ok with that then a home based business is probably not right for you.

One of the first things most people in network marketing will tell you to do when starting a new company is to create a list of the top 50 or 100 people you know who might be interested in working from home. Sometimes we think of people but we’re hesitant to put them on the list because we don’t think they’ll be interested, we’re embarrassed or we just don’t feel like it’s our place.

Here are the top three people that you should be telling about your new home based business but you probably aren’t.

Your Parents

Many people would never dream of talking to their parents about working from home. Either because they don’t want them to know that they’re doing one of those “work at home things” or because you don’t feel that your parents would be interested. However, even if your parents have seemingly great jobs or they’re retired that doesn’t mean that they might not still want to make some extra money.

You truly never know who will be interested in working from home until you ask. And even if mom and dad don’t want to sign up it can still be a great opportunity for you to talk to them about the new business you’re a part of and why you’ve chosen to work from home.

Your Co-Workers

Ok so this one can be tricky, you don’t exactly want to go blabbing all around the work place about how much you hate your job and what you’re doing to be able to quit it. However, if you’re close to some of the people you work with (and if your boss isn’t around) it’s perfectly acceptable to tell them about your new opportunity. Hey, you want to quit… they probably do too!

People At Church

This can sort of be awkward but it really doesn’t have to be. Talking about business with people you go to church with doesn’t have to be something strange. Just keep it casual and make sure they know that it’s ok if they say no. As long as you don’t make it awkward they probably won’t either.

So many articles about MLM or network marketing are written about mindset. That’s because when you’re building a business nothing can be more important than what’s between your ears. Your mind can either push you on to greatness or hold you back in a serious way.

In this article I want to talk about your income potential. Do you believe that you’re worthy of making 6 or even 7 figures from home? Or are you like the millions of other people who believe they’re only ever going to be 5 figure earners?

Once you have decided on a budget you’ll want to think about the type of product you’ll be looking to market. Do you want a product like vitamins, make up or juice? Or a service like health benefits, an energy plan or a cell phone service? Whatever product you feel the most comfortable marketing you will be sure to find it because there is a network marketing company for just about everything under the sun.

Of course more important than finding the right product or start up cost is finding the right team to join. You want to be a part of a team that already has a strong system in place. Something that will allow you to just jump right in and start making money. You want strong leadership and someone who is passionate about helping others. In MLM Is Honesty Really The Best Policy? What You Should And Shouldn’t Tell Your Prospects!

Is it really a good idea to tell your prospects the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you God? There are a lot of good points to be made here. Some people say that you shouldn’t tell your prospects the truth on every single aspect of your business and some people think you should. Here is why I say it’s important to be 100% honest about your home based business but that doesn’t mean you have to tell people everything. Let me explain…

I don’t really ever believe that lying could ever help your business. When people ask me if building a business from home is going to be a lot of work I say yes, because it’s true. I would never lie to a prospect because I believe that once you lie and you’re caught in that lie your credibility is shot forever. Plus it’s just not the right thing to do.

However, that being said I believe that sometimes we as network marketers tend to say way too much and that can hurt our business. There are things that a regular prospect just doesn’t need to know. They don’t need to know what percent commission you make on level 3. They don’t need to know every single detail about the products. That doesn’t mean that if they ask you you shouldn’t tell them it just means that it shouldn’t be a part of your average pitch.

Are you starting to see the difference. Tell people the truth when they ask but be careful not to say way too much when it’s not necessary. I have walked by as people have been explaining a business to a prospect and let me tell you when you start saying way too much you’re just going to confuse the person even more. Give them a brief overview of what the business is all about and answer any questions that they might have without giving them way too much info at once!

So, is honesty the best policy in network marketing? Yes!

Why Your Home Based Business Is So Simple A 5 year Old Could Do It!

However, sometimes we overcomplicate it to the point that we forget just how easy it really is. Sure there are always things we can learn about how to work from home but really at the end of the day building a home based business is so simple a 5 year old could do it! Here are three reasons why!

1. A 5 Year Old Will Talk To Anyone!

If you’ve ever been around a small child you know that they don’t usually get intimidated by anyone. If you’re around them they’ll talk to you. They’ll talk to the woman in line at the grocery store, they’ll talk to the mailman, they’d talk to the queen of England if she came over for a visit!

If we were more like a small child we wouldn’t be so intimidated by people and so afraid to talk to the people around us about our business.

After all if you talk to someone and they’re rude to you that’s their problem not yours. Obviously I’m not saying you should just start jabbering on to anyone and everyone you come into contact with. But being a little bit more bold and little bit more confident wouldn’t hurt anyone!

2. A 5 Year Old Is Persistent!

Have you ever been around a child who wants a piece of candy or a new toy. They won’t stop until they get it! Even if it means causing a scene. I child will do just about anything if they really want something. As adults sometimes we’re too quick to give up on what we really want out of life! Fight for the things that are important to you. Don’t stop until your dreams come true!

3. A 5 Year Old Will Tell You If They Like Something!

Network marketing in it’s very simplest for is simply telling as many people as you can about something that’s made your life better. Whether it’s a company that changed your life for a product that’s made your life easier. So why are we so afraid to tell people about a good thing? A 5 year old wouldn’t be. If they got a great new toy for their birthday you better believe you’re going to hear about it!

Chances are uncle Charlie will start into a huge story about how he joined such and such company in the 80’s and didn’t make anything. Aunt Charlotte will just roll her eyes and if anyone is being honest someone will probably admit that they’ve been interested in joining a specific company and have heard good things about it. If the group is big enough you might even have one or two people who have made money in this very misunderstood industry.

People are very torn when it comes to network marketing and because of all the good and bad hype it can be really hard to know what the real deal is. So if you’re one of those confused people who can’t seem to figure out if network marketing is legit or a scam here are a few points to ponder. This comes from someone who has been involved in the network marketing industry in some way or another since I was very young. So I’m not just spouting off things I found online… this is actual experience.

First of all let me just settle one thing here and now. Network marketing is LEGAL! A pyramid scheme and a legitimate network marketing company are NOT the same thing. Pyramids are illegal. Network marketing companies like Mary Kay and Amway have been around for what seems like forever and if they were illegal wouldn’t they have been shut down by now? Of course! Network marketing is a legitimate form of business. It might not be the norm but it is defiantly legal and ethical.

Secondly, network marketing isn’t for everybody. In this world there are job people and business people. There isn’t anything wrong with being one or the other it’s just who you are. Job people need a boss, a schedule, and a steady paycheck to feel secure and safe. Business people want to take control of their lives a bit more. They are self motivated and usually creative. They are driven and are ok with not having a steady check for a while because they know how building a business will pay off in the end.

Chances are if Uncle Charlie had a bad experience and didn’t make any money in a network marketing company it didn’t have anything to do with the business but the fact that Uncle Charlie wasn’t made to be a business owner and because of that the business didn’t work for him.
