Using Twitter To Grow Your Home Based Business

Twitter has become extremely popular over the last year or so. Everyone from high school kids, to big name celebrities, to the president are now on twitter. This social networking site can also mean great things for your home based business. There is a lot of information out there about how to use Twitter to grow your home based business.

In this article I’m just going to be going over the basics of what Twitter is and how to use it. Think of it as the newbie’s guide to using Twitter.

If you’re someone who is a little afraid of the internet you have nothing to fear here. Twitter, of all the social networking sites out there, is probably the easiest to use for someone who doesn’t know a lot about the internet.

Get started by registering at Twitter.com it’s fast and easy and should take you less than 10 minutes (probably less than 5). The way Twitter works is very simple. You communicate with people by posting quick tweets about you and want you’re doing. This is very much like the status updates on Facebook. If you’re unsure about what to tweet about try signing up and then looking at what other people are tweeting. This should give you a good idea of what it’s all about.

After you’re all signed up you’ll want to get people to start following you. If nobody is following you then the tweets are pointless so your goal is to get as many followers as possible.

A good way to get started with that is to simply start following lots of other people. In most cases if you follow someone they will follow you back and this builds a pretty good list for yourself in the beginning.

The only thing to do after that is to continue to grow your list every day and of course start tweeting! Twitter has become so popular because once you start doing it you’ll find it to be extremely addictive and fun. By posting things about your home based business, your new blog or a link to your newest you tube video you’ll also be gaining prospects!

Tip: Make sure you don’t just tweet about business though. You need a good mix of business as well as personal/ fun stuff in order to get more people to continue to follow you on Twitter.

So those are the basics to marketing with Twitter. This is by no means everything you need to know to use Twitter but it should be enough to get you started and to build your confidence in this new and extremely popular social network.
