When Ann Sieg published the powerful report The 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing in 2007, the reaction of many network marketers was expected to be hugely negative. Some even considered it a network marketing scam.
For a long time, MLMers struggling with their business were told that:
* their upline should be duplicated
* they should consider everyone near you as a potential prospect
* anyone can succeed, even those without a sales background – consider it as product sharing
* the business would be built for them once they joined
When success was not initially forthcoming many were told that they beliefs in the system were not strong enough. This was probably the most annoying statement of all.
Network Marketing Scam
Network marketing can have a big hit and miss rate. The industry has suffered many blows caused by statements such as these tainting its image. High attrition rates have also not helped to give the industry a good name.
A huge problem for distributors is how to create a reliable intake of prospects. If you don’t have any stable leads it doesn’t matter how much you believe in yourself or you business. You business will suffer and eventually stagnate and dry up completely.
The basis of hit and miss prospecting involves approaching family, friends, and complete stranger. It is not professional or business like and is likely to give you a bad name if you are continually pestering people. Even worse, many network marketers give up after receiving a few rejections. Many declare the business is too stressful. This accounts for the large attrition rate and many declaring that it is a network marketing scam.
The Internet reaches a wide audience and has a power unlike any other marketing tool. If you use it to attract prospects to your network marketing business you will be hard pressed to find anything to rival its marketing potential. However, the problem comes from network marketers who do not have the skills or knowledge to market and promote online.
The 7 great lies of network marketing mention that absolutely anyone can do business. Whilst this may be true for offline business, but online it is an entirely different matter.
Whilst the Internet allows the targeting of people you would like to do business with, attraction marketing revolves around pre-selling to these prospects before they will listen to the nature of your major business offer.
Ironic as it might seem, many network marketers are now beginning to disprove this particular theory. By using online attraction marketing techniques it seems that attracting prospects into your funnel is now easier than ever. Does this mean they have laid to rest the notion that it is all just a network marketing scam?
